For most pet owners, the prospect of having their loved one under general anaesthesia is a nerve-racking proposition at best. We understand your concerns and we do everything in our power to minimize those risks. Along with a thorough physical exam, pre-anaesthetic blood work is a powerful component of minimizing risks. While your pet is under anaesthesia, he/she will be monitored by an Animal Health Technologist using aids such as a Doppler Blood Pressure Monitor which allows us to measure blood pressure as well as heart rate.
We may also use a Capnograph (that allows us to measure the amount of carbon dioxide that is exhaled) or an ECG (electrocardiogram). By far, the best tools that we have are the skills that the Veterinarians and Technologists have developed over many years experience in dealing with pets under anesthesia.
