We maintain separate entrances for dogs and cats, with signs by each door to direct you to the appropriate entrance. Generally, the cats appreciate these separate waiting rooms more than the dogs. A well-meaning dog sniffing a cat carrier containing an already concerned cat may seem pretty innocent to us, but it is a terrifying experience for the cat. We also have a third area where we may have clients wait, if we need to separate our canine citizens from each other. Of course, all of our Island Veterinary Hospital patients are perfect angels, but this is “just in case.”
