Shelly AllardyceShelly is a married mother of two who grew up on the west side of Vancouver. Eight years ago Shelly and her family bought a house in the Steveston area of Richmond. They currently share it with three Border Collies; Sasha, Nick and Skye. She also has two cats named Sylvie and PJ, and many feathered friends.
Shelly worked as a Senior Corporate Clerk, in downtown Vancouver for close to twenty years before she joined the team at Island Veterinary Hospital with Dr. Van Duin. Her life-long love of all animals has led her to this position where she helps people and their pets on a daily basis.
One of her outside interests is volunteer work for That'll Do Border Collie Rescue of BC, and Pacific Northwest Border Collie Rescue. Shelly fosters Border Collies in need of a temporary home until a permanent one can be found. She is also a passionate gardener finding great peace in digging in the dirt and tending her flowers.
Justine RyanJustine was born in Kamloops but when she was only a few months old, her parents packed up with her and her two older brothers and moved to a small community in South Delta. Their house was always filled with animals, big and small. There was Max (a Basset Hound), Kitka and Mya (two Siamese cats), and dozens of smaller creatures including frogs, newts, fish and hamsters.
As she grew older, the family grew larger with the addition of Willy (a Miniature Apricot Poodle). Willy brought new meaning to the phrase "man’s best friend.” He became so integral to the family, that he led the way for Poodles being the choice breed for the family.
Justine’s largest interest (aside from animals) is her love for hockey- she’s an avid fan of the game. When she’s not working or taking classes, she finds relaxation in taking in the amazing habitats that have been created in her backyard fish pond and her tropical fish and reef tank located inside the house. She has always believed that the relationship of owners with their pets is an everlasting and powerful bond. It is one that she shares herself with her Poodles, Isabelle and Ben. Maybe you’ll see them enjoying a walk around their neighbourhood in Richmond.
Her life long interest in animal rights came to a head when she became a member of PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals) and was one of the thousands of people to sign a petition supporting a bill for prosecution of individuals that engage in cruelty to animals in Canada.
Justine completed two years of college at Langara College in Vancouver. Then, for a change of scenery, she moved to Edmonton, Alberta for another two years at Concordia University College. She is now working to finish off her Bachelor of Arts with a concentration in Psychology.
Justine is very excited to work at Island Veterinary Hospital in an environment where her outgoing personality and love for animals can be indulged. She has such a passion for people and pets that she very much looks forward to each and every day in the hospital knowing each will be as rewarding as the next.
